China's leather import market has shifted to a consumption-oriented one
From the perspective of the import product structure of the leather industry, in recent years, the import scale of China's leather products has continued to grow rapidly, the proportion of leather products imports has increased from 55.6% in 2016 to 71.7% in the first half of 2021, and the import of products in the first half of 2021 has increased by 5.0 percentage points compared with the same period in 2020, showing that the trend of China's leather product import structure from production to consumption is becoming increasingly obvious.
Leather export market is dominated by footwear and luggage products
From the perspective of the segmented product structure of the export market, in the first half of 2021, China's footwear products exported 4.10 billion pairs, with an export amount of 20.36 billion US dollars, accounting for 52.7% of the overall export scale of China's leather industry; Travel goods and bags exported 4.90 billion pieces, with an export value of 11.90 billion US dollars, accounting for 30.8% of the overall export scale of China's leather industry. The export market of the leather industry is still dominated by footwear and travel goods and luggage products, and the export value of the two accounts for more than 80%.
Scientific and technological innovation and green sustainability are the main themes of China's "14th Five-Year Plan" development plan
During China's "13th Five-Year Plan" development plan, the structural adjustment of China's leather industry continued to deepen, the ability of independent innovation continued to improve, the quality level was further improved. The brand echelon grew stronger, and the total import and export volume ranked first in the world leather industry. But it was still facing the shortage of labor resources, the level of independent innovation was still insufficient, the profit margin of enterprises was squeezed, the overall brand influence was weak, and the level of automation and intelligence was low.
During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, according to the "Guiding Opinions on the High-quality Development of the Leather Industry", issued by the China Leather Industry in August 2021, specific suggestions were made on the production efficiency, scientific and technological innovation, quality brand, export structure, green manufacturing, industrial cluster, digital operation, and talent echelon of the Chinese leather industry, especially on production efficiency, scientific and technological innovation, quality branding and green manufacturing goals, laying the foundation for China's leather industry to be in China's "14th Five-Year Plan" The general tone for achieving high-quality development during the development plan.
